Disc Springs are conically formed angular discs, that deform to a shorter height when subjected to a load along their axis of symmetry. This elastic deformation characterizes the spring action. Disc springs are a good option where the space available is limited and the load required is high. Disc springs can be used as a single disc or in stacks of multiple disc springs to achieve a desired load and available space. These disc springs are generally used in extreme pressure/ high temperature/ applications, pipe flange applications heavy and light bolting applications, dynamic applications. bolted joint applications, and bearing preloaded washer applications.

Materials used are generally in the annealed condition and hardened to within a range of 42-52 HRC depending on the material thickness. When required, disc springs are preset so that they will not significantly relax under load over time.
